The August bank holiday weekend has become traditionally 'Nationals Weekend' when the B.M.F.A. welcome visitors from near and far to, arguably, the largest and certainly the most diverse model flying event in Europe. As a visitor to Barkston Heath, on any one of the three days, you can see competitive flying in several disciplines. These include radio controlled scale replicas, aerobatics, helicopters, pylon racing and fun-fly events. In addition on Saturday and Sunday some of the countries leading pilots are in action on the demonstration line. There is also a full programme of control line flying ranging from aerobatics through combat and speed to team racing.
Outside of the formal competitions the Sunday morning swapmeet always draws a large and enthusiastic crowd all looking for a bargain. If camping on site the hangar provides the evening venue for a bar and indoor free flight and radio control flying activities.
Something not to be missed is the evening outdoor free flight
On hearing shouts of "HEADS" remember to dive out the way of low flying aircraft! An amazingly funny and crazy experience!
