B.M.F.A. 'B' Achievement Scheme Success

Congratulations to Martin who has been awarded his B.M.F.A. 'B' Achievement Scheme Certificate flying an Extra 330.

RAF Leeming Friends & Families Day
On Saturday 12th September 2009 some of our Members enjoyed a visit to RAF Leeming Friends & Families Day. We were given an excellent pitch for our stall where we displayed models, ran the flight simulator and promoted the sport of model flying.
A fantastic airshow took place featuring the Typhoon Eurofighter, Hawk jets, Sea King helicopter, Lancaster, Hurricane and Spitfire.

Richard Smith, one of our Junior Members was runner up in the Great Britain Radio Controlled Aerobatic Association competition at the B.M.F.A. National Championships held at RAF Barkston Heath.

Richard experienced engine trouble with his Oxalys, nevertheless he earned promotion points flying a reserve model, the Hydeaway,to enable him to move up from Clubman into the Intermediate level for next season. He was presented with his certificates by the B.M.F.A. Chairman Robin Gowler.

Members who persevered the wet weather were lucky to see two 'Fly Pasts' as the Red Arrows unexpectedly flew over again on their way to Windermere Airshow after leaving Sunderland.

Many thanks to all our Members who supported this momentous occasion for G.M.F.C. as it is such an honour that the Red Arrows included us in their busy schedule.

G.M.F.C. Receive a Grant Award

In May 2009 G.M.F.C. was successful in gaining grant awards from The Community Foundation and Grass Roots totalling  £1,774. The money has been used to purchase a range of model aeroplane equipment to enable us to promote the sport of model flying providing training opportunities for existing and prospective members. The money will also enable the Club to purchase an electric fence system, laptop and flight simulator.

An impressive line up of models. Click the photo to see more images.

Many thanks to those members who were able to come up to the Flying Field on Wednesday 3rd June 2009 for the photoshoot arranged by the Community Foundation from whom we have received Grant Aid.

The response from members was excellent and I trust everyone enjoyed taking part.

I realise that work commitments etc prevented more from being there however the line up of models at the start was very impressive.

The photos will be published in the Community Foundation Year Book.
